Optimized Link Pitch and Bushing Clearance
The Hitachi EX1800 Track chain is assembled from individual links, pins, and bushings. The pitch between each link and the clearance between the pin and bushing are machined to tight tolerances. This ensures smooth engagement with the drive sprocket and front idler, reduces impact loads during entry and exit, and prevents irregular pitch elongation during continuous travel.
Reduced Rolling Resistance and Power Loss
Sealed lubrication between the pin and bushing reduces internal friction across the entire track loop. Lower friction means less hydraulic power is wasted overcoming resistance in the undercarriage. The engine output is transferred more efficiently into track traction, which translates to lower fuel consumption during long-distance tramming and grading operations.
Enhanced Traction and Ground Holding
The track chain is matched with 800mm wide triple grouser shoes. The grouser geometry is designed to penetrate soft ground and maintain grip on hard, rocky surfaces. This provides reliable traction during digging, prevents track slippage on slopes, and improves machine stability when operating on uneven terrain.
Fatigue-Resistant Forging and Heat Treatment
The links are forged from high-strength alloy steel to eliminate internal porosity. The pins and bushings undergo carburizing and induction hardening to achieve a hard wear surface with a tough core. This structure enables the chain to withstand high tensile loads and repetitive impact forces in mining and quarry applications.
Application Value

Link rail induction hardness held to HRC 52–58
The 4334483 link rail is induction hardened to HRC 52–58 with a 6–8 mm effective case depth. Core hardness remains HRC 32–38. This gradient prevents spalling under high impact while resisting rail abrasion against the sprocket tooth.
Pin-to-bushing radial clearance at 0.15–0.30 mm
The pin and bushing are assembled with a controlled radial clearance of 0.15–0.30 mm. This specific tolerance ensures free articulation at -30°C without seizing, while preventing excessive impact loading at 50°C. This band is verified on all 49 links.

216 mm pitch tolerance maintained within ±0.1 mm
The center distance between adjacent pin holes is machined to 216 mm ±0.1 mm (Hitachi EX1800 Track chain). This precision guarantees proper meshing with the EX1800 drive sprocket tooth spacing. Pitch deviation beyond this limit causes uneven load distribution across the sprocket, leading to rapid tooth hooking.
Maintenance Recommendations
Five-Link Pitch Measurement And Pin Diameter Logging
Measure the distance from the 1st pin center to the 5th pin center every 250 hours. If the 5-link pitch elongation exceeds 3.5 mm, or if micrometer readings show pin diameter reduction over 1.5 mm, the chain has reached its wear limit. Record these measurements to replace the chain before sudden track jumping causes severe sprocket tooth damage.
Counterbore Fretting And Seal Lip Extrusion Inspection
During disassembly, inspect the link counterbore where the pin seats. Look for dark reddish-brown residue indicating fretting corrosion, and check if the rubber seal lip is extruded or torn. Clean the counterbore with a brass wire brush and apply anti-seize compound before reassembly to prevent accelerated link fatigue and pin seizure.
Minimize Pivot Turns And Chain Twisting On Rocky Ground
For the Hitachi EX1800 Track chain, avoid sharp spot turns and emergency braking under heavy load. On rugged rock terrain, keep a low and stable speed to prevent track chain twisting. Violent operation generates severe lateral force on the pin ends, causing flat spots on the pin surfaces and accelerating pitch elongation. Plan the travel path to minimize side loading across the 49 links.
Matched Replacement Of Track Chain 4334483 And Sprocket Teeth
When replacing the track chain 4334483 for Hitachi EX1800, measure the sprocket tooth thickness simultaneously. If the sprocket teeth are worn below 8 mm, replace them as a matched set with the new chain. Always use brand-new M24 track bolts torqued to 1,200 N·m in a diagonal pattern to ensure proper seating.

Q&A

How to measure pitch elongation on a 49-link EX1800 chain?
Measure the distance from the pin center of the 1st link to the pin center of the 5th link. New specification is 216 mm × 5 = 1,080 mm. When this 5-link measurement reaches 1,083.5 mm, the chain has reached its replacement limit of 3.5 mm elongation. This method eliminates measurement errors caused by chain sag.
Can I replace only a few worn links or do I need to replace the complete track chain?
Only if the remaining 48 links show less than 1.5 mm pitch elongation. Replacing a single link on a chain with worn pins and bushings creates an uneven pitch match. The new link will carry a disproportionate load. If pitch elongation has reached 3.5 mm on any 5-link section, replace the complete 49-link assembly.
Do I need to replace the track bolts when swapping track shoes?
